White As Snow

The wood slept peacefully under the glow of the brilliant moon. The trees were empty of their burdensome leaves, naked branches silhouetted against the black sky.

Somewhere between midnight and early morning, the moon's light was extinguished as the wind blew storm clouds to cover the stars. Carried by the gentle wind, a flurry of perfect snowflakes drifted to the forest floor, dusting the tall pines in pure white as it fell.

It was the first snowfall of the late autumn season.
