I wish I could say that this is a "writing help" post...but sadly, I need help.
I have so much trouble thinking of and finding ways that my main character can defeat the villain/evil.
I tried to think of different books that might help me with this problem, but nearly every book I own contains little things throughout the chapters that lead up to their story's resolution. It all helps the MC (main character) to ultimately destroy the antagonist. Everything plays out perfectly, like a formula.
How do they do it?
I haven't a clue. I'm either too lazy or not clever enough to come up with something complicated that leads up to something unexpected.
I've noticed one thing that these books of mine all have in common: the MC finds courage in the end. During the battle that is almost certain to end in death, the MC fights with more determination and bravery than ever before, vanquishing the evil in some unexpected, but not very complicated way.
I need to remember something: there is nothing new under the sun. Every idea has been used before. Maybe the ideas have been used in different, seemingly-original ways, but in the end, it all comes out the same.
The MC finds courage and discovers she can do this. She can overcome the darkness with her light.
My problem: I want it to happen unexpectedly.
We all expect each book to end a certain way. Our expectations are usually satisfied, but we're not disappointed because we expected it. While we did hope for a certain ending, we didn't expect it to happen the way it did.
Jesus told us that He is coming back soon. He will return, and He will take His children home. But I don't know exactly how it will happen. I may die before He returns, or I may be alive when He comes to meet us in the air. This world is passing by. But whatever way it all ends, I am going to be with Him for eternity.
This post is proof that writing it out, helps me figure it out.
Often times, I just sit at my desk, rubbing my face and thinking.
Write it out.
Me too!
ReplyDeleteI have the same problem. Though, I haven't really ever gotten to the end of any of my stories... ;)
How's your life been?
Seen Daisy lately?
Haha, I had never finished a story either until Kingdom Bonders! (and Sleepwalking Beauty, but that was a very short story)
DeleteLife's been nice :) Learning to have patience and trust Jesus through every trial that the days bring.
How have you been??
No, haven't been to visit Miss Daisy...I would like to try again when the weather is cooler, though. Maybe then I'll have enough courage to be around Riley ;)
You know...if you're allowed to...you could make a fake email account and write to me at my email address on my drawing blog (on my contact page)...that way I could send you some of my latest writing projects - ones I don't want to share publicly on my blog...just a thought ;)
But no worries at all if you can't do it :)
Ah yes. I really liked Sleepwalking Beauty! :D
DeleteI'm glad. I've needed to learn that too. And to overcome Pride. I never realized how prideful I was until I heard our Pastor's sermon a few weeks ago...
I've been well, besides this dizzy/headache thing I've had since last night. I think I'm getting a cold... :P
Well, hopefully Riley will be good, and you'll have a nice visit. :)
I wish I could, but probably not. :(
Thanks for asking though! :D
But I'll be watching for those pictures you don't mind sharing publicly! ;D
Have a great week Livvie! :)
I'm so glad you liked it!
DeleteMm yeah...God always knows if we have something in us that needs to change - and He's always there to cleanse us of it, if we only ask and allow Him to work in us.
Oh I hope you're feeling better now!
