Books

Looking back, I can't believe that there was once a time in my life when I disliked reading. True, I still can't get into the classics (Jane Austin, Charles Dickens, etc.) and I really don't find older mysteries very interesting.

I love fantasy/adventure books, but have been limiting myself to what kind of fantasy/adventure books are filling my head. There are so many of those types of books out there that have so much junk in them.
I prefer light fantasy/adventure books.

I hope to someday own the Airborn books (Kenneth Oppell). They're kinda futuristic, but at the same time, not really. There's a bit of sci-fi involved such as strange creatures they stumble upon. The Airborn books are non-stop action, danger, and new discoveries. I love them.

Recently, I've been reading aloud to my little sister. She loved Dragon Slippers and wants me to get Dragon Flight next (she's crazy about dragons, so those books are perfect). I then started the Door Within trilogy with her. She's so excited about those! We're onto the second one and nearly halfway through. The only problem with reading aloud is hoping nobody else can hear me...I like to do different accents and tones for all the various characters and would only do it in front of my little sister...and maybe my brother. Besides, it would be just plain boring if I did the same voice for every character!

Me, I've been reading 'Tuesdays at the Castle' and 'Wednesdays in the Tower' by Jessica Day George (Dragon Slippers). They're pretty good so far...more for the younger crowd than my age, but they're so cute and I love the way she makes the characters more than just lifeless paper dolls.

I also borrowed a book called 'Keeper of the Lost Cities' by Shannon Messenger. I don't have very much information on it, but it looks good. Set in modern times, the main character can hear other people's thoughts, but doesn't know why. She soon finds out that she's actually an Elf from another world. (pretty lame, right?) Well, I started reading it online and loved the way (once again) the author made the characters come to life with their own personalities. I was intrigued and decided to try it for real.

The problem is that there are just so many books about girls or boys who have something weird about them. Then they're told that their whole life has been a lie and they're really something else. Uuuugggghhh....
Anywho, we'll see how 'Keeper of the Lost Cities' turns out.

Happy Weekend!
